Sentry Guns is a Counter-Strike 1.6 deathmatch mod where you do not just shoot - you build. Earn money for kills, spend it on automatic sentry guns, laser mines and dispensers, and help your team capture the map. This guide explains how the mod works on the Balagun server and how to build everything.

How the Sentry Guns mod works

The server runs team deathmatch (CSDM): two teams, instant respawn, free weapons and no round end. The map goes on until one team captures most of the spawn points or the time runs out.

Fight - choose any weapon for free with /guns. Killed? You are back in about a second.
Earn - every kill gives money, destroying enemy buildings gives more.
Build - press N and build sentry guns, laser mines and dispensers.
Capture - take the enemy spawn points to win the map.

Everything is controlled with one key: N opens the quick menu (build, shop, settings). If you look at your own building while pressing N, you get its control menu instead.

On your own building you can also press E - the same control menu (upgrade, destroy). In the air E opens the parachute.

How to earn money

$300 for every kill.
A bonus for destroying an enemy sentry gun (the higher its level, the bigger the bonus), laser mine or dispenser.
A bonus every 20 seconds for each spawn point your team holds.
Teammates can send you money: /money.

Money is spent on buildings, upgrades and the /shop (health, speed, low gravity, invisibility, extra damage). Every next sentry gun costs more than the previous one, so do not waste them.

Sentry guns: how to build, upgrade and repair

A sentry gun is an automatic turret that finds enemies and shoots them by itself.

How to build a sentry gun

Stand where you want the gun and look at the floor in front of you.
Press N → Sentry Gun, or use a bind: bind v build_sentrygun and press V.
The gun is built and starts working at once. It shoots only at enemies.

How to upgrade a sentry gun (levels 1-4)

Walk into (touch) the sentry or look at it and press E - its control menu opens. Each upgrade costs money and gives more health, faster fire and more damage. Level 4 also fires rockets; before it the game asks you to confirm.

After an upgrade the gun needs a short pause before the next one: 15, 30 and 60 seconds. VIP, Premium and admins upgrade any sentry instantly.
You can upgrade your teammates' sentries too - it helps the whole team.
Level 4: a player without VIP can have one own level 4 sentry, a VIP - all own sentries, Premium and admins - any sentry.
In the control menu you can also destroy your building and get back 50% of the money you put into it.

How to repair a sentry gun

Look at a damaged sentry and hold R (reload) - it repairs for a small price.

Laser mines

A laser mine is stuck to a wall and shoots a beam across the passage. Every enemy who crosses the beam takes heavy damage. Lasers are perfect for doors, corridors and the approach to your sentries.

Look at a wall (not the floor) where the beam should start.
Press N → Laser Mine, or bind it: bind CAPSLOCK build_lasermine.
The beam goes straight from the wall to the opposite side - aim so it crosses the path enemies take.

Lasers have levels too: level 2 has three times more health, level 3 (VIP and above) stays after the owner's death. In the control menu (E) a laser can be turned into a mine: it becomes invisible, the beam goes out, and it explodes when an enemy comes close.

Dispensers

A dispenser stands on the ground and heals teammates nearby while draining the health of enemies who come close. At level 2 it also restores armor.

Build it with N → Dispenser or bind p build_dispenser.
Upgrading needs a teammate (VIPs can upgrade their own dispenser).
Put it next to your sentries: a dispenser plus two sentries makes a strong defensive point.

Capturing spawn points and winning the map

Each map has spawn points for both teams. Stand next to an enemy spawn point until the bar fills (about 8 seconds) - it becomes yours and your team starts respawning there. The team that holds 80% of the spawn points wins the map. Holding points also gives money every 20 seconds, so defend them with sentries and lasers.

Tips and tactics

Build behind corners, not in the open - enemies can shoot a sentry down from far away.
Upgrade one sentry to level 3 first instead of having many level 1 guns.
Cover your sentries with laser mines on the approaches.
Destroy enemy buildings with grenades and focused fire - it pays well.
Hold E in the air to open a parachute - handy on maps with height.
Make binds for building - it is much faster than the menu. See binds and commands.
